Snow and The Sea
A downloadable game
a numbing horror journaling game for one player
about seafaring and cold
where you play as a sailor in winter
i started thinking about this game after i read joseph manola's post about the horror of small discomforts.
half of the horror is that small discomforts don't end. cuts and burns heal; you will get cut and burned again. when i am cold i am cold all the time; it's not an event that hurts and leaves; i am cold now and i look at the sea and know i will be cold later and cold forever.
the second half of the horror happens when you are back by a warm fire and you can't stop thinking that you want to be on the sea.
so i wrote this game about the poem the blog writes about: The Seafarer, an old anglo sailor's poem.
i also wanted to steal horror energy from Hungry Desperate and Alone by d vincent baker, which the title of the post reminded me of; and to steal horror from moby dick, which writes the thing i am trying to write on nearly every single page; and to steal horror from yoko ono's snow piece and the odyssey too, of course. the sea is FULL of good horrors. you will find some if you play the game.
